Party Tricks
How a Far-Right Activist is Gaming the VC Ballot
Can a candidate with a documented record of antisemitic provocation, theocratic politics, and dehumanizing policy proposals slip past voters by changing the letter next to his name?
Former 2026 Republican gubernatorial candidate Kyle Langford, best known for incendiary rhetoric and praising Auschwitz, has pulled a political stunt that should concern every Ventura County voter: he’s running as a Democrat in California’s 26th Congressional District following Rep. Julia Brownley’s announcement that she would not seek re-election. The progressive outlet Daily Kos, which tracks fringe and extremist candidates entering local races, was among the first to flag Langford’s party switch. Some East-enders, Canyon folk, and Upper Ojai residents will see this wolf in Dem’s clothing on their June 2026 primary ballot.

Most of our stories live behind the OLO members-only paywall. Memberships help keep this project alive, but they only cover the basics.
If you’re a local business, sponsoring a story is the most direct way to reach our readers while supporting independent coverage in Ojai. You can choose to sponsor this story and bring it in front of the paywall, or back future stories that matter to you.
We don’t have a sales team chasing sponsors — so if you value VORTEX, now’s the time to step up.
