Are you familiar with the term “tamale fairy?”
A tamale fairy shows up at an office, a laundromat, outside a bar at last call. An urban phenomenon, we don’t have such folk heroes in Ojai.
Luckily, we have Me Gusta Gourmet Tamales and can pick them up every Thursday at the Ojai Community Farmers’ Market or any one of 90 regional Farmers’ markets.
The Ortega family has been building this business for 25 years and I had the extreme pleasure of being their neighbor for the last four. Dora and the kids — including supermodels Diana and Jimena — used to bring me award-winning tamales after the market’s close and I shall miss my Pavlovian response to the sound of their return.
