It’s not often that an artist on the periphery of the mainstream Ojai art scene surprises us. Yet that’s exactly what we witness in the rise of artist Tom Pazderka. In a matter of months, he’s opened a solo show at the Carolyn Glasoe Bailey Foundation exhibition space in downtown Ojai (The Luminous Dark), launched another at Vita Art Center, secured a coveted residency at Taft Gardens, and is preparing to welcome visitors to his studio as an official member of the Ojai Studio Artists. It’s a groundswell moment, and it feels extraordinary to witness.
