OLO Events Page: FAQ

A quick primer on how the sausage gets calendared

Who can view the events page?

All OLO members. It’s one of the main perks of joining.

Can I share my password?

Please don’t. OLO subscriptions are how we fund this entire weird, wonderful magazine. Member support makes up about 90% of our revenue. Sharing your login undercuts that.

Who can submit events?

Right now, only OLO members have access to the submission form.
If you’re not a member, you’re still welcome to tag us on Instagram, but to be honest, we hate being on that platform these days.

Why can't I just email my event to the editor?

Because we like our minds unbroken. The calendar is only possible with a streamlined process. Direct emails get lost, forgotten, or just break our brains. Use the form, please. Not a member? If you host frequent events, consider joining. It’s only five bucks a month.

Why is the list text now instead of image-based?

Because Photoshop was killing us. The old layout had its good points, but it was completely unsustainable. The new format is still curated and manually updated, but ditching image editing saves us hours each week. If there’s demand, we might add AD spots to the calendar itself (deeply discounted for members, of course). For now, if you want visibility, a home page + e-blast ad combo is still your best bet.

Why don’t you link out to organizer websites or RSVP/ticketing pages?

Because:

  • Sometimes the event has no website.

  • Sometimes the only source is a screenshot, an IG story, or a shout while driving down Ojai Avenue.

  • Finding, verifying, and formatting links is time-consuming AF.

  • If you’re selling tickets and profiting from an event, you might consider buying an ad, since this is a free community resource.

    Have a recurring event?

Ugh, those are hard. Please enter the next date in the field below and specify in the location field whether it repeats. We're still working on how to handle these without losing our minds.

What kinds of events will you NOT post?

  • Wellness classes (we love a sound bath, but no, not weekly)

  • Spiritual/self-help/religious presentations

  • Anything that doesn’t pass the VORTEX vibe check — we reserve the right to curate

I submitted an event, and it hasn’t appeared.
What gives?

You should get a confirmation email when your event is submitted. If it’s been 48 hours, reply to that email or write to theojaivortex@gmail.com. We’ll let you know if it was missed or declined.
